What Makes a KickDrum / BassDrum Sounds Good?

This is the first post of my blog, so will be presenting myself very quickly

I'm "Dun Knee L"(the english pronounce for a brazillian name), the mind behind of Kray-Z Ghost, i'm From Brazil(You can see that by the hang loose on the blog photo) and I love to Produce Music and Learn about it.

I'll use this Blog to Share Some of my knowledgement into "IN THE BOX" music production that i learned over these almost 12 years of DAW and Plugins Playing on daily basis.

so let's go to answear that Question: What actually Makes a Good Sounding Kick (in my POV)?

The answear is simple, and it will take 3 Steps.

1.A Nice Transient - it's a spikey pice of sound that usually happens from 1ms to 40ms,and it exite a large range of frequencies in this short time (which makes the speakers "ready" for the net elements)

2.A Good Pitch Drop on the Lows - a "humph" sound that usualy from slides from 200hz to 60hz. It's what makes speakers Jump.

3.The Tail - The lenghts will vary a lot depending on the genre. (Exemple 1: Riddim with 1/16 Kick Lenght and Tech house with 1/8 lenght of the grid| Exemple 2: In Techno Scene we listen the Rumble as the Tail)

In modern EDM the Sub Bass Take the job of the tail, and In my point of view the tail has the function to make the track feels consistent, which also the sub bass makes either, but with different characteristics.

Each of these three aspects will vary from genre to genre, but the main concept is what i already written above.

Latelly, in all of my production i always aim for the perfection for my kicks in these 3 aspects that i mentioned above. To me, The Kick is the back bone of the Modern Eletronic Music... it kind dictates the overall vibe.

Here are Songs that i think that have amazing Kick Drums:

Control - by Umek , POPOF and Space 92

To the Depths - by Desembra (producer that work with the Weeknd nowadays)

More Than You - by Koven

Bonfire - Knife Party (Rob Swire is a Master since Ever)

Singularit - S. Bodzin (this Briliant Mind makes his 808 style kicks sounds fantastic!)

Serenity Eyes - by Does Everybody Love? ^~^ (I applied all these concepts to the edge to achieve the kick drum in this song)

That's it for now on Kickdrum topic.

Feel free to comment this post with a song that you Love the Kick Drums my dear Reader!

See you in the Next post.
